Vote for a hopeful, radical Scottish Green Party

Ross Greer #1 to take on the super-rich & bring hope back to our politics.

Voting is now open in the Scottish Greens’ leadership election! This is your chance to choose a leadership team who can bring hope back to Scottish politics, take on the super-rich and protect our planet.

I’m asking for your #1 vote to do exactly that.

When I joined our party in 2009 we had fewer members than my high school had students. Our best hope of changing Scotland was in persuading the other parties to be less shit with the power they had. It wasn’t good enough.

With more MSPs and councillors elected since then, we have shown the transformational impact of Greens being in a position to implement our ideas directly.

We need to keep electing more Greens than ever before, not as our end goal but as the means to a far more important end - transforming Scotland into a fairer, greener society.

We should be proud of what we’ve already achieved. I was particularly proud to lead on our work to scrap peak rail fares (permanently removed as of next month!), cancelling the school meal debts held by thousands of struggling families and securing a record £4.9 billion of climate and nature-positive spending from the Scottish Government.

But we can’t ignore the fact that, for all the progress Greens are responsible for, politics more widely has become a pretty dark and hostile place.

Too many people are angry and hopeless. It's our job to show that the fault doesn’t lie with trans people or asylum seekers, it's the billionaires, big polluters and greedy landlords who have rigged the system in their own favour.

To defeat the super-rich and transform Scotland for the better we first need to transform our party into an even more effective campaigning movement.

As an activist, organiser and MSP I have consistently delivered meaningful change, from community-level right up to Parliament. Campaigns like Save Loch Lomond show that I know what it takes to win against the rich and powerful.

That grassroots organising approach, combined with a clear political strategy at national level, is what I want to bring to the co-leadership of the Scottish Greens.

I want to see us focus on tackling the climate and cost of living emergencies together. That means simple, easily communicated proposals like making bus travel free for everyone and delivering stronger rent controls, including for students.

After all, climate justice requires social and economic justice.

Greens are at our best when we’re delivering the transformational change that people and planet desperately need. We aren’t just here to make a point, we’re here to change Scotland and the world.

If you share my vision for a radical, hopeful and vibrant Scottish Green Party, one capable of defeating the forces of greed & despair and then changing Scotland for the better, I would be proud to have your #1 vote for Co-Leader.
